Audi to add more models to the Q range

Audi plans an onslaught of new models by extending the Q range with new models like Q2, Q4, Q6 and Q8 in the next 2-4 years. Audi plans to have 7 models under the Q range which will be a mix of SUVs and Crossovers. BMW and Mercedes-Benz are also working on a range of crossovers which will be in direct competition to Audi’s Q range.

Audi is working on the new models which would target a new segment of customers in both the developed and emerging markets. Audi has not specified any details about the specific locations of model launches.

The first of the new models to arrive will be the Q2, which could debut as early as 2016 and be underpinned by VW Group’s compact MQX A0 architecture.

The Audi Q2 will be available in five engine options:

  • 1.4-liter TSI petrol engine rated at 125hp
  • 1.4-liter TSI petrol engine rated at 185 hp
  • 2.0-liter TDI diesel engine rated at 115hp
  • 2.0-liter TDI diesel engine rated at 177 hp
  • 2.0-liter TDI diesel engine with 220-hp

Next up is the Q8, which will ride on the next-gen Q7 platform (codenamed MQBevo). The Audi Q8 will be available in five engine options

  • Two petrol V-6 engines delivering 230 and 300 hp
  • A 3.0-liter V-6 TDI a 250-hp
  • A 4.2-liter V-8 TDI with 400-hp
  • A twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 with 550-hp

The Q6 is expected to launched most probably in 2017 and share a host of components with the upcoming Porsche Macan as well as the next Audi Q5. The Q4 is tentatively scheduled for 2018 which will most probably share it’s underpinings with VW Tiguan.
