Yamaha ASEAN Cup U-13 Football tournament concludes in Malaysia
The Fourth Yamaha ASEAN Cup U-13 Football tournament, concluded yesterday at the Stadium PJ Kelana Jaya in the state of Selangor, Malaysia amidst much fun and excitement. In the midst of some very bracing performances by the players and to the delight of the football-crazy spectators, the tournament saw Thailand walking away with the championship trophy by defeating Malaysia Yellow with 2 goals.
The event attracted thousands of football fans acrossAsia. The tournament was competed by six teams, all under the age of 13, who emerged victorious in the preliminary rounds held in the five ASEAN nations -India,Indonesia,Malaysia, Thailand andVietnam(host country Malaysia participated with two teams). This was the second time a team from India Yamaha Motor (IYM) participated in the tournament. Michael Nagar Netaji Sangha from Kolkata represented India Yamaha Motor football team for the finals. They played against Malaysia Blue Team which resulted in a draw at 0-0 giving them 1 winning point & Vietnam which resulted in a defeat at 0-7 goals.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Jun Nakata, Director-Sales & Marketing, India Yamaha Motor Pvt. Ltd. said, “I would like to begin by congratulating the team from Thailand for winning the title in the 4th edition of the Yamaha Asean Cup Under-13 tournament. It has indeed been an exciting journey with all the participating teams giving their best by displaying the spirit of teamwork and sportsmanship. The aim of the ASEAN CUP is to help boost the competitive level of the players and teams of each country. I also congratulate the team from India Yamaha Motor for displaying a high degree of competitiveness, which is symbolic of the YES! YAMAHA spirit. I really look forward to India’s participation in the coming editions of the Yamaha Asean Cup Under-13 tournament and hope to see them win the title soon.”
Yamaha has been organizing the YAMAHA ASEAN CUP U-13 FOOTBALL tournament for under-13 football players since 2008. India Yamaha Motor had organized the second edition of the tournament in India in association with The Indian Football Association (West Bengal). The tournament was held from May 16 to 20, 2012 and witnessed participation from budding football enthusiasts from West Bengal, in which , Michael Nagar Netaji Sangha from Kolkata emerged victorious and represented the country.
YAMAHA ASEAN CUP U-13 FOOTBALL tournament’s aim is to bring together players and teams from each country and provide them with an opportunity to improve their competitive skills and build international friendships in a healthy atmosphere that contributes to youth development through sport and the promotion and spread of sports.
