Maruti not to display the Swift Sport & Hybrid at Auto Expo

India’s largest car maker will not display the Swift Sport & Swift Hybrid at the upcoming Auto Expo.

We hoped the two cars made it to India. The Swift Sport if launched will surely see some petrol heads very happy. Maruti will be in no hurry to launch more models to complement the Swift as the car already has 1 lakh plus bookings.

The Swift EV Hybrid is Suzuki’s vision of an ecocar that embodies advances on the Swift Range Extender. The concept was showcased at the Tokyo motor show.

This concept is powered by an additional battery that helps extend its overall range, a set-up similar to the Chevrolet Volt. While in motion, it is powered first by an electric motor and backed up by a small range-extending petrol engine.

On battery power alone, the car has a 30km operating range. The 2009 concept was based on the previous-generation Swift and featured a 658cc mill, offering 54bhp, working in tandem with a 74bhp electric motor, powered by lithium-ion batteries.

The new generation of the Suzuki Swift Sport made its world debut at the 64th International Motor Show (IAA) Cars show.

The new Swift Sport is a refined sport compact resulting from the first full model change since the launch of the original Swift Sport in 2006. It has a more aggressive and dignified exterior look thanks to a ground-hugging form that gives a sense of stability and tension and a big front grille that evokes sporty performance. And its cabin combines essential sportiness with a high-quality look and feel and design features that heighten excitement about the driving experience.

Higher power and lower fuel consumption are delivered by the 1.6-litre M16A engine, which Suzuki developed exclusively for the Swift Sport. The engine is mated to a specially developed six-speed manual transmission, resulting in performance that’s both exciting and environmentally responsible. Plus, the new Swift Sport offers superior cornering stability and brisker, more responsive handling thanks to struts with internal rebound springs and to an exclusive rear-suspension design.
