Tata Indica, Sumo Spacio to be discontinued
Tata finally wants to say Tata to the Indica and Sumo variants. The Indica tagged as the first indigenously designed car will finally see be laid to rest as the company plans to focus on Vista and other models. Tata Motors had revived the Indica with the launch of eXeta and eV2 variants which promised very high mileages. The Indica has been on the Indian roads for almost 13 years and Tata now feels its time it discontinues it.
The company has also been testing the Indica with a stretched platform based on the Indigo XL. The car has been caught testing several times. Seems like the Tata may launch the Indica XL mainly to cater the Taxi market and fleet operators.
Tata motors also plans to discontinue the Sumo Spacio and other variants. The Indigo Marina which has been discontinued most cities will be now completely phased off.
The Sumo was once the best selling MUV the title now captured by Mahindra Bolero. Sumo has seen dwindling sales for quite some time. Tata Motors have not been able cash on the sumo brand equity. The Grande too has not seen sales success. Tata motors recently launched a upgraded Sumo which now boasts the exterior looks of the Spacio.
The company has been trying its best to promote the brands and have also raced in many rallies to prove its reliability and power. The new strategies are paying off and seems like Tata now needs some wonder products to help the company establish itself once again.
The Indigo did create some buzz in the Estate segment when launched in the Indian market. However there were only few takers for personnel use and was quite popular in the taxi market. The chances of a new Marina on the Manza look very slim.
Tata should launch a new model to replace the Indica to fill up the void between the Nano and Vista.
Is there something cooking already?
