Volkswagen clocks in 140% growth in sales over 2010

Despite the downturn and negative sentiments in the market Volkswagen clocked in 140 percent growth selling a total of 78,408 units for the calendar year 2011 as compared to 32,627 units in the same period last year.

The two new carlines – the Passat with BlueMotion Technologies and the Jetta have shown strong growth since its market launch with the Passat selling 1,170 units since its launch in April and the Jetta 1,688 units since its launch in August.

In addition to that the Polo and the Vento which for the first time got one full year of sales after their market introduction along with their action model variants have performed very well selling 74,305 units for the period January –December 2011.

Commenting on the excellent sales performance, Mr. Neeraj Garg, Member of Board, Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars, Volkswagen Group Sales India Pvt. Ltd. said “Despite the ups and downs over the last six months we have continued to invest in the market by way of introducing new products, expanding our reach and refreshing our existing models by way of our action model strategy in the country. It gives us immense pleasure to see such excellent results and gives us the confidence that the Brand is on the right track.”
