Yamaha is all set to enter the scooter segment with a new Ray of hope. The Japanese two-wheeler maker is currently popular in the premium segment will take on the like of Hero, Honda, TVS, Mahindra and Suzuki to battle the scooter segment which has seen some tremendous growth in the last one year.

With growth comes competition. Honda leading the pack has 3 powerful and successful models, followed by Suzuki Access and Swish a new entrant. On the hand Mahindra Duro, Flyte and Rodeo are doing decent numbers. Hero has launched its new Maestro targeting the masculine segment while the Pleasure is for the fairer segment in which the Ray will be compete. TVS also has well established products.

Yamaha may plonk in the 100-125cc engine made for Indian market which will focus on the right balance of power and mileage. The scooter is targeted mainly for the feminine group but it may also attract the masculine group due its edgy style.

Yamaha also displayed the ASEAN market models like MIO, FINO and the XEON which are doing very well in Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam. But there are very slim chances of these making it into the Indian market.
